BHRSolutions'
Plant and Process audits can be carried out either on existing plant
and equipment or on conceptual designs. Audits follow a number of
stages:
- Methodology
Equipment Audit
- Chemistry
Audit
- Process Methodology
Audit
- Identify
Potential for Improvement
- Assess Effects
of Improvements
- Report
Equipment
Audit
An equipment audit is carried out based on details of the initial
equipment provided by the client. Our capabilities in this area
cover:
- Stirred tank
reactors
- In-line mixers
- Heat Exchanger
Reactors
- Crystallisers
- Fixed bed
reactors
- Mechanical
design and sealing
- Bubble columns
- Pump and
piping systems
Often a site
visit partly covers this stage, allowing our consultants to discuss
with operation staff process details, current problems and potential
for future modifications.
Chemistry
Audit
The chemistry audit reviews details of reaction chemistry and by-product
formation or rheological changes that may affect process performance.
Commonly, part of this stage may be covered in the site visit.

Process Methodology
Audit
The process methodology audit reviews key details of current operation,
e.g. order of addition of ingredients/reactants, heating/cooling
profiles or changes in agitation intensity during the process. Again,
this stage may partly be covered by a site visit.
Identify
Potential for Improvement
From the audits, current process limitations are identified and
their effect on, for example, process safety, product quality, productivity
and operational cost rated. Means of overcoming these limitations
are identified.
Assess Effects
of Improvements
The likely effect of modifications to the mixer/reactor design and
operation are quantified using BHRSolutions' extensive design
and operation guidelines and experience. Further work may involve
physical or CFD
modeling.
Reporting
A written report is supplied to the client listing recommendations
in accordance with the client's requirements. This may be delivered
in paper or software format, and to advise on implementation. Details
of all audit stages are included in the report. Often a review meeting
is held with the client to discuss findings and recommendations.
