Product/Service
DIAJET Limited designed and supplied 350 bar and 700 bar suspension abrasive water jetting units for offshore decommissioning applications.

Problem
The successful removal of offshore structures needs effective subsea technology. Amongst the most challenging of tasks is the cutting of multi-string casings. These casing can be up to 30 inch in diameter and need to be severed below the seabed. Techniques for cutting inside the casing are explosives and abrasive water jetting. Explosives can cause damage to the piles and have environmental disadvantages. Also it is not permissable in all territorial waters.

Objectives
To apply DIAJET technology for pipe and multi-string casing cutting with these capabilities:

  • Remote ability with hose lengths 100's of metre's
  • Cut hundreds of meters under water
  • Single hose delivery for confined access and manoeuvrability
  • Precise cold cutting
  • Low cutting head mass and reaction forces

Approach
DIAJET has supplied high powered abrasive water jetting systems for a number of decommissioning applications including leg piles of 42" diameter and internal multi-pass rotary cuts of casings.

Together with DIAJET, Stolt Comex Seaway has developed a Jet Abrasive Clamp (JAC) that has been deployed to cut submerged pipelines.

Outcome
DIAJET technology has been proven as an effective and flexible method of decommissioning structures remotely and underwater at a great depth.
