Assess the suitability of four multiple impeller combinations (one of which was already in use).

Approach

• Obtained rheology data of the process liquids and operating conditions
• Used model liquids to match the viscous and shear thinning properties of the gel and the flow conditions in a smaller scale vessel
• Flow visualisation and power measurements made

Results
One of the impeller combinations was recommended due to its advantage in terms of avoiding air entrainment from the surface and overall power draw.
