Problem
Service conditions of automotive water pumps are uncontrollable and variable. The history of a failed seal is usually unknown and high levels of warranty failures can be costly in both monetary and reputation terms.

Approach
BHR Group has carried out several audits for the automotive industry. Each audit included optical examination, material testing, finite element and tribological analysis of the seals and their operating environment in order to identify the causes of failure. Expert technical support has also been provided to oversee design improvements in the materials, seal and cooling system design to provide a cost effective modification.
