Sealing, Containment and Emissions Case Study:
Aqua-Gas Valve Tests

Application
Valves for water distribution management and control.

Customer
Aqua Gas

Product or Service Supplied
Pressure test cycling to failure of Aqua Gas Series 55 DN 450 gate valve.

Problem
In the water industry, traditionally, large diameter gate valves have not been required to perform a large number of open/close cycles. They have not therefore been designed for frequent cycling. Commonly, large gate valves need to be actuated and controlled for management of water distribution. Extra duty placed on gate valves has led to the need to redesign and develop them fit for purpose. Validation of performance is the final step of this phase.

Objectives
Independent testing and performance validation of the new generation Aqua Gas Series 55 DN 450 gate valve.

Approach
BHR Group provided comprehensive testing and reporting services for the new generation valves. A valve was mounted on a 16 bar cycle rig (PN16) and cycled to failure to establish which components fail, how they fail and when.

Outcome/Benefits
Aqua-Gas used the valuable test information to redesign components and establish superior performance. The tests confirmed the product's capability and provided greater confidence that the product will meet the new standards and satisfy customer requirements.
