Permanent test facilities at BHR Group are 'open access': available to customers, for a fee, to either use themselves with minimum supervision or for use by BHR Group staff on their behalf. We also build test rigs for specific projects which are normally decommissioned on project completion.

The rigs are housed in a large open-span laboratory which caters for a number of physical models up to around 20m x 15m.

The rigs are supported by a dedicated design office, wood and pattern making shops (for building accurate scale models in wood, plastic or metal) and a machine-shop. With instrumentation and data acquisition and control services also provided on-site, this means that we offer a comprehensive test rig "design, build and operate" service.

Our personnel include:

  • test rig and mechanical designers
  • skilled model-building craftsmen
  • process, civil and mechanical engineers experienced in modern test methods
  • instrumentation and data measurement engineers
  • engineering analysts who use the test data to develop computer prediction tools

In addition, our Hydraulic Modelling service creates large scale models of civil structures for hydraulic analysis and testing.

Test Facilities - Summary

  • Batch and semi-continuous stirred tank reactors and impellers from 300mm up to 2700mm diameter (15 Tonne)
  • Continuous and in-line reactors
  • Includes Laser Doppler Anemometry, mix time instrumentation and analysis
  • Intrinsically safe chemicals laboratory for testing with hazardous fluids and materials
  • A range of single and multiphase pipeline and riser flow loops for flow assurance, pipeline integrity and and safety
  • High temperature and pressure test rigs for seals, gaskets and valve packings under extreme conditions, and for testing wear and component lifetime
  • Rigs for testing pipe wear in slurry pumping and pipelining
  • Facilities for laboratory or on-site measurements of rheology for sludges and slurries
  • Facilities for testing and validating: pumps, seals, gaskets, valves, pipeline components and mixers
  • Deep Water Flume: a 6m deep channel for studying flow induced vibrations of long slender structures, such as deep water risers.
  • A large open-span laboratory to house large rigs and models
